Standing over the stricken captain, Jon offered up a quick, silent prayer to the Great Spirit for sensitivity, healing and Captain Sash's final recovery. A quiet preparation was a necessary part of Jon using his spirit gifts in helping those whose condition was so serious. Jon was just finishing that prayer when his sensitive ears and nose detected the female Romulan doctor behind him. A moment later Dr. Sh'areh spoke. "How long will it take you to make preparations for your acupressure?" "I am ready now," answered Jon. Looking down at Sash's unresponsive body, Jon could see where acupressure, if applied correctly and over time, could possible restore the comatose captain to full consciousness, just as it had the restored the telepathic resistant Dopterian to wakefulness several months before. ~I am going to make sure to not tell Dr. Sh'areh that I can physically see auras of any living creature including the Romulans.~ Without skipping a verbal beat Jon said, "I can tell that the life energies need to be stimulated over the areas of the heart and the brain. It's the Angosian version of the Reticualting Activating Formation or RAF." "Excuse me doctors," she paused, and Jon heard an unfamiliar beeping sound from Dr. Sh'areh. He assumed it was from her hand held device. "But I require the items on this list in order to begin." Jon placed his hands on the Captain heart and forehead, and applied firm but steady pressure to help awaken him. Jon could see the energy move around the Captain's body. When Jon touched Sash's body, he tried to initiate a telepathic bond. He found resistance on the Captain's part and was able to detect a strong preoccupation. The captain's mind was elsewhere. He pulled back his awareness and while continuing to apply the acupressure, he said, "The Captain is resisting any telepathic contact. I could try pushing through much harder, but I am concerned that it might cause injury. What would you all have me do?" (Posted by Jim) ===================================================================== (USS Hades – Deck 10, Sickbay – Dr. Alyss Sh’areh – 0932) As a nurse approached and took the dataPADD from her, Alyss Sh’areh turned back to the readouts and studied them as the counsellor went to work with his acupressure. ~I wonder how he knew where to apply his treatment~ she wondered after Nayati had declared that the patient’s heart and brain required his focus. He had not appeared to check any readings, not that they really showed anything that might lead him to that conclusion. ~No matter~ she said, dismissing the thought from her mind. ~It really makes no difference~ The nurse soon returned with some of the equipment that Alyss had requested, and she immediately opened her own case to take out two devices used to monitor brain activity. “I need those to create an interlink between your read outs and my equipment.” She took to wireless devices that were handed to her and fixed one to the computer station, and the other to one of her hand-held devices. As she activated her own equipment, she only had to wait a moment before the readings fed through. ~Interesting, but not unexpected...~ she thought, before leaning down to her case and removing another device that appeared to be some kind of head-set. Placing it over her short black hair and pointed ears, the small green lenses rested neatly in front of her right eye. It activated with a light tap to the ear piece, and within seconds it had interfaced with her hand-held device. It was then that Nayati said, “The Captain is resisting any telepathic contact. I could try pushing through much harder, but I am concerned that it might cause injury. What would you all have me do?” ~Disappointing...but again, not unexpected~ she thought with a smile. “I’m going to use something we developed for the Angosian neural network.” She looked over at the head doctor to try and elaborate, “Think of it as a sort of inhibitor. It weakens the telepathic defences of a patient to enable easier access to the neural net.” (reply: Trommashere, Kildare, any) As she moved her hand-held device closer to the patient, she used it to directly scan his head. The neuropolaric energy levels were far higher than she ever expected, but she hid her surprise and maintained her professional composure. As the device beeped, there was a small click as a small part of the device detached from the side. Alyss took the detachment and moved to fix it to the patient’s head. With a snap it fixed into place and a green light started to flash immediately. She had never tested the device on such strong defensive neuropolaric levels before, but she was sure this treatment will still have the desired affect. “Alright then Mister Nayati,” started Alyss as she saw the levels drop to a level she deemed acceptable. “Make your attempt again.” (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (IWS Donatra - Observation Dome - A/COPS Lt Tom Jackson - 0946) As Tom followed the Commander and Centurion along the corridors of the Donatra, the functionality of design of the Romulan starship. He realized with a start that he'd not paid enough attention to their routs - he hoped one of the others had covered his mistake. Tom noticed Jonas Laamr had dropped back to speak briefly with him, "Thank you for attending Lieutenant. I know you have a lot on your plate at the moment, but I thought this might be a welcomed respite." Jackson felt a Tom felt a rush of affection for the FO. The man had to succeed to the role of CO and make many decisions he wasn't sure he could make. Tom looked out the observation window and as always the view was breathtaking. He usually spent a lot of time looking out the Windows in the lounges on board the Hades when dealing with issues to solve. Lost in deep thought, Tom was half thinking about his career to date. He was moving along fairly well rank wise but had yet to make the jump to department head. Serving with Maraht had been a blessing in disguise - the Hortan officer had taught him a few things about being a leader and he was grateful. Jackson had this funny feeling that his life was about to enter a new phase. Tom was looking forward to touring the Romulan vessel and learning a lot more. She had even taken the time to study the Romulan pictoglyphs in the turbolift and on the deck intersections to use as guide. While her memory was not perfect, she was confident that she would be able to guide them back to the transporter room without difficulty. Apparently Lemar was interested in knowing if she could do so as well. He slowed his pace slightly and with a small twist of his head asked her in a quiet voice, " Do you recall our route, Ensign?" She responded back in a similar tone, "Of course commander, perfectly so." Before much longer they had arrived in the observation dome of the ship. It was an incredible sight and if Vulcans could easily be moved to emotions, T'Sol would have been awestruck. For a species that believed in the functional over the aesthetic, this compartment certainly did not fit the rest of their ship design paradigm. “This is a stunning view commander,” Jonas said, taking a few more steps inside. “It appears you have managed to out-do me.” Jonas grinned, and turned to his other officers as if to ask silently for support. "Indeed Commander, this is certainly an excellent feature of Romulan Starship Design. I am certain it can be quite…..relaxing." T'Sol regarded the clear metallic floor that seemed to be all that separated them from the openness of space and the glittering jewel of the Romulan homeworld spinning lazily below them. "Is this feature found on all Romulan ship's of this class or is it a unique feature of the Donatra?" T'Sol Asked. (posted by Daniel Greene) ===================================================================== (IWS Donatra - Observation Dome - A/COPS Lt Tom Jackson - 0949) Jackson had been uncharacteristically quiet - the view was even more breathtaking than what he had seen in the lounge on his HADES. T'Sol had the presence of mind to ask their Romulan hosts if this was a standard part of this class of ship's design. Tom was waiting for the Romulans to reply. While spartan by Federation standards, the Donatra was architecturally beautiful. His military side wondered how they fare if the ships, the Donatra and Hades, engaged in combat. He had loved seeing the planet side buildings - again spartan but beautiful in there own way. In a funny way, tom loved the spartan environment. As more time passed he hoped they would be allowed to tour more of the home world. It would be interesting to meet an 'average' Romulan citizen. As the others with im chatted , he looked forward to seeing more. As a Science Officer, he was required to know certain things about plants, and he knew that he had seen some of these before, mostly on Federation data-basis, but the majority was unknown to him. He felt a little ashamed of himself. Growing up, he was taught that the Romulans were a sly, subtle, but warlike and greedy race. Until recently, he'd never imagined them to be a great collector of plants, or great architectures other such things. He took out his tricorder and scanned the nearest unknown plant to him. He took Xerius's warning and stayed away from the plant. Just in case. The tricorder told Kenny that the plant was similar to other plant like spices, but he could not detect any chlorophyll. It seemed that this plant did not need sunlight. This was amazing. He searched for another means as to how this plant could survive without taking in sunlight. He found it; Kenny discovered that the plant had little microscopic pods on its leaves, when exposed to a certain temps, they vibrated, 'causing heat. The vibrations caused the pods to realise a glucose substance which fed the plant. This was very interesting. Kenny suddenly heard some animal tweeting rapidly. He saw a small bird emerge from the plant and fly away to another plant. Kenny followed it, slowly as not to scare it. He took tricorder readings, hoping that the bird would not fly away in fear of the bleeping. It seemed content. Kenny was able to see the bird with his eyes proper this time; It was the size of an Earth sparrow, but bright colours of red, yellow and green. Almost like a cross between a tropical and arctic bird. Its eyes were on the side of its head, giving it a 360* view, but the eyes were long vertically, and Kenny could have sworn he saw the pupil move up and down. The bird flew away, and Kenny tried to follow. He lost it, but fond Ensigns Doorman and Shayhiloosh in front of him. They were looking at a small lake which had several thin waterfalls from it, the mist foaming different colours. "Oh my! Did any of you see that? I think I caught that on a tricorder. It would seem it might not be wise to get too close to the edge of the pool." said Shayhiloosh to Doorman. "You don't have to tell me twice..." replied Harry. Kenny was curious, so he approached them. He wanted to know what they had just seen, and if it was a threat to the party. "What happened here?" Kenny asked. (Posted by Gavin Work) ===================================================================== (Romulus - Institute of Advanced Scientific Studies, Arboretum – ACSO Ensign Shayhiloosh - 1003) "This dome is quite the feat of engineering," said Shayhiloosh. "I wish our Engineering department could see it." (Reply Harry Doorman, Any) Some way into the trees on the moss covered path, it was cool and dim. Small flowering shade loving plants and bushes were growing among the trees. Wherever there were sunny patches in adjacent clearings, there were pungent herbaceous ground cover plants. Birds twittered in the air and flew from tree to tree overhead. Some were more colorful and raucous, chortling and calling while fluttering rich jewel toned feathers. Brightly colored insects with large delicate wings fluttered in the sunny clearings, lightly touching down from flower to flower. Shayhiloosh found it refreshing. S/he could detect a soft roaring sound of water ahead of them. Turning a tricorder in that direction, s/he said, "I think we have some sort of water source coming up ahead." (Reply Harry Doorman, Kenneth McKenzie, Any) The science group soon found themselves coming up to the edge of a lagoon with a few tall thin waterfalls that spilled out from a higher rocky precipice above. It fell a good fifty feet or so, plunging over from the stony bluff above. Mist filled the air around the waterfalls, spilling colorful rainbows everywhere. The quieter areas of the lagoon, away from the falls, harbored blooming water plants that were a variety of colors; purple, red and pink and white. Some had round leaves with straight stalks that reached down into the water. Small amphibians sat and puffed out their skin on their necks and croaked raucously on the round leaves. There were a few stalks of white flowering blooms the stuck out from the water with their longer thin leaves that floated on the surface that attracted a few flying insects. Suddenly a flowering stalk moved and a tongue snapped out to catch a jewel toned insect, pulling it into a large mouth that raised itself to the surface of the water. The head and mouth with the flowering stalk on top that was not a flower, dipped back into the water to await more prey. "Oh my," said Shayhiloosh. "Did any of you see that? I think I caught that on a tricorder. It would seem it might not be wise to get too close to the edge of the pool." (Posted by Sheila) ===================================================================== (Romulus - Institute of Advanced Scientific Studies, Arboretum - SciO Ensign Harry Doorman - 1007) "This dome is quite the feat of engineering," said Shayhiloosh. "I wish our Engineering department could see it." "Oh don't worry, sir they'll get a good look at it through these scans." Harry replied, "I'm really looking forward to the stress analysis of the structure as a whole. I don't know of any other structure in the dome shape that even approaches this size." Harry followed Shayhiloosh through the plants being certain to stay on the pathways. He was still not entirely comfortable with the idea that some of the plants were hazardous to his health. "I think we have some sort of water source coming up ahead." the Arborean stated. Harry looked at his tricorder. "It appears to be a waterfall, ' he added. There was a lagoon present being fed by a waterfall, as Harry had predicted. It was a serene setting if not entirely quiet. The roar of the water was such that he had to strain to hear the others in the party speaking. There were white water flowers. They were absolutely beautiful. At least that's what Harry had first thought until they consumed an insect as it flew overhead. "Oh my," said Shayhiloosh. "Did any of you see that? I think I caught that on a tricorder. It would seem it might not be wise to get too close to the edge of the pool." "You don't have to tell me twice," Harry stated and took a step back away from the water. (posted by Daniel Greene) ===================================================================== (Romulus - Institute of Advanced Scientific Studies, Arboretum - ACSO Ensign Shayhiloosh - 1009) "You don't have to tell me twice," Harry stated and took a step back away from the water. Ensign McKenzie was curious, so he approached them. "What happened here?" he asked. "Ensign McKenzie, those white flower stalks poking up out of the shallow water are not true flowers," explained Shayhiloosh. "They appear to be an animal lure to aid in catching and then devouring insects. According to my tridorder scans, the amphibious animal appears to be an insect eater and is relatively small in relation to us. However, it has different defense mechanisms to protect itself from predators, most notably a poison that it exudes from its skin. The compound could be lethal to most life forms. Logically it might follow that such a potential prey animal might have a larger predator animal nearby, one resistant to its poison." (Reply Kenneth McKenzie, Harry Doorman) A ripple appeared on the surface of the water much farther out in the lagoon. Something much larger was swimming noiselessly. One of Shayhiloosh's tricorders registered it as a larger creature, one that had many sharp rows of pointed teeth. S/he pointed it out to the group, noting it had a potentially carnivorous nature. "I would suggest that we continue along our path which follows the shore of the lagoon for a short way before going back into the trees and be on the alert. Ensign McKenzie, as we go, see what scans you can take of the bluff, the waterfalls and the lagoon. I am curious to know how much of this was created by the Romulans and how much is natural." However, usually those others were trying to wheedle some kind of authority out of him, or fill him with false platitudes. It was refreshing to dine with others who simply wanted the pleasure of his company. Of course, he wasn't completely foolish to believe that these Federationists wanted nothing from him. But at this moment, they simply wanted to eat and share company, which he was happy to comply with. The Praetor watched the others carefully as they consumed their food. There was light talking, which reflected little of the negotiations. Frazier seemed comfortable with her... how do they call it... small talk. Even the one called Raizel Grem seemed at ease, although he could denote a sense of tension from her that he could not quite identify. However, this Baylon Trinin asked questions. "If I may ask, Pra- Vrih," Baylon began, "Do you enjoy the hobby of gardening? Your Arboretum is quite beautiful." Vrih threw up his hands, "Alas, I wish I had the time. I enjoy the results of the labor, but I rarely have an opportunity. I wish that I had. I understand that your Captain Sash is quite the hortoculturalist. What about you Mr. Trinin?" "As for myself, I have what is commonly called a black thumb. If any sort of plant even thinks I am coming anywhere near it, it seems to wither up and burn black. Gardening is most assuredly not in my blood." The Praetor chuckled and nodded. "I fear that my attempts would meet a similar fate my friend. It appears that neither of us were built for such activities." They returned to their meal. To Vrih's surprise, they mostly tried the native Romulan dishes, which please Vrih. They really were here to get a better idea of the Romulan culture, including its food. As a student he used get infuriated at those who attempted to define a culture by its food. Food went beyond culture, and yet it barely scratched the surface of a race. Most species regarded Romulans for the potency of their ale. It amused him to know that Romulan Ale is outlawed in many sectors due to its ... unusual effect on most humanoids. He, himself, rarely imbibed in any alcoholic beverage, finding it necessary to be in control of his full faculties most of the time. Still, it would be interesting to see how these ambassadors would react to the drinking game of Scorn. Perhaps after the negotiations. Looking a Ejuil he doubted that his aid would approve. Ah well, it was a game for the young. "So Bree," Vrih said, after pushing his plate from him, "would you consider staying here on Romulus after the negotiations were complete. I believe that there are parts of our culture that you would truly enjoy." Before Frazier could reply, the door opened and there was a thunk sound, followed by the sound of something rolling. Vrih's gaze went from looking at the doorway, to looking a Ejuil, who was already moving fast. Unfortunately it wasn't fast enough. There was an explosion of light, followed by silence and darkness. Vrih tried to fight the effect of the explosive, and could feel his body being lifted before he lost total consciousness. (posted by Al Muir) ===================================================================== (Romulus – Senate Building, Praetor’s Dining Hall Chamber – CSEC Lt. Baylon Trinin – 1020) Baylon was really enjoying the small talk and the exotic food. It was something that he had always enjoyed; trying out new dishes whenever he got the opportunity. It was nice to be here on Romulus, having breakfast with the most important man in the Romulan Star Empire without much worry about the safety of the away team or the Praetor. It almost allowed Baylon to relax and simply enjoy the company; the taste of the food; the smell of the flowering plants; and the soft thunk and rolling sound…. It took a moment for that noise to register in his mind. Within a second he was standing, grabbing the table to overturn it between the doorway and the Praetor. He simply couldn't beat the fuse on the device. "Grena-" he managed before the flash and the secondary blast knocked the wind from his lungs. He remembered falling backwards, pushed by the compression wave as the phased Nadion particles pressed forward compressing the air at the wave front. His eyes dazzled with a multitude of little sparkles that danced across the inside of his eye-lids and then everything went black. The overturned table must have caught some of the blast, because Baylon could almost sense movement. Sound only reached him as a rushing sound which coincided with the sound of rhythm of his heart. There was no light, there was only a feeling of tingling and a sensation of perpetual falling. It was somewhere in all of this that he realized the device responsible for this state of supersensory stimulation was a Federation Stun Grenade. The information lodged itself in his brain before it finally suffered from sensory overload and shut itself down so that it could regroup. (posted by Daniel Greene) ===================================================================== (Romulus – Senate Building, Praetor’s Dining Hall Chamber – Ambassador Brianna Frazier – 1021) Bree had enjoyed the brief conversation between their small group. If one was an outsider looking in, you would never have thought this was the leader of an entire galactic empire. Things were just so very informal, and for Bree that was a sure sign that things were going right. After they had finished three separate courses of food, Bree was quite stuffed to the brim. She pushed own plate away from her and leaned back, uncharacteristically allowing her belly to protrude from the rest of her body. She had known she was full about 15 minutes earlier, but she has so wanted to try a little more of the Romulan food that she couldn’t help herself. “So Bree,” started Vrih also pushing his plate from him, “would you consider staying here on Romulus after the negotiations were complete. I believe that there are parts of our culture that you would truly enjoy.” Bree was initially surprised by the remark, and delighted that she had received such a direct invitation from the Praetor, who clearly felt the negotiations would succeed. As she opened her mouth to respond, they were all startled by the sudden opening of the door, followed by a thunk sound as something landed and rolled along the floor. Bree didn’t know what to think, but a split second later Trinin was on his feet and upturning the large table before them. It was a good job he was as fit as he was; had Bree been tasked to do that she would have clearly failed. All she heard was ‘Gren...’ escape Trinin’s lips before a loud ‘thwap’ hit her ears and she heard nothing. She felt her body only briefly being thrust in one direction, but he consciousness snapped out before she could sense her landing. She lay in a heap, her injuries left to their own. She powerless to do a thing. (posted by Dave) ===================================================================== (Romulus – Senate Building, Praetor’s Dining Hall Chamber – Senator Terrh – 1025) As Senator Terrh stalked the halls of the Capitol Building on the way back to his main office, the walls shook ever so slightly and dusted bellowed out from the cracks. Staggering to one side, Terrh steadied himself on a nearby Centurion momentarily. Without a single word, he snapped his fingers at the lower officer and marched off at double time down a side corridor, the guard in tow. Instinctively knowing where to head, he was soon walking the halls of the Praetor’s private residence – a secluded section of the Capitol building that was designated for the Praetor to live while he worked at the empire’s capitol. As he neared the site of the disturbance, he could see more and more Centurions gathering in the area, and as he moved, have snapped them into line behind him and soon had a small force of security officers following him. By the time he finally arrived, the area was already cordoned off. Terrh was a little surprised that no one had already thought to enter and attempt a rescue, but then they were under very strict orders to remain at their posts no matter what. If an intruder had been in the area and they had left their station, they and their families might have been punished. As he stormed to a stop, his expression was one of annoyance and concern. “Centurion, open the door at once!” Without hesitation, the doors were opened. As Terrh entered, he was surprised at the type of damage he found. The walls and fixtures were cracked and broken, but not by any fire damage, or other sort of energy weapon. If he had to guess, it looked like there had been an earthquake in here. As he walked in closer, he saw the large cracked table that he assumed had been the table the Praetor was dining at. And then he saw the Praetor, lying crumpled, blood seeping from multiple wounds on his head. ~A shame...~ he thought, the corner of his mouth peaking slightly. Under other circumstances he might have been pleased, but this was not entirely the way he had foreseen his succession. “Get the medical team in here right away,” he called out, a hint of concern in his voice ... the tiniest of hints. “You there,” he bawled out to one of the guards that had followed him inside. “Clear away that debris so we can transport Praetor to safety.” As a number of officers scurried in to extract their leader to safety, Terrh noticed the Federation people present, also unconscious. ~How fortunate...~ he smiled, noticing that their appeared to have been very little in the way harm caused to them. Apart from the bruises and few cuts, nowhere near as serious as Vrih. “Centurion, arrest these Federation assassins at once.” He turned and pointed a bony finger at the next available security officer. “Take them to the maximum security facility at once!” “Yes Senator,” said one Centurion, as he quickly turned and waved to a number of other officers of similar rank. Each one seemed to be an armed security guard or one form or another, and fairly soon, each of the Federation diplomats were being dragged out of the area with two Centurions a piece. Terrh stepped to one side and allowed them to pass, first seeing the dropped red haired Frazier, her curls almost dragging on the floor as the Centurions carried her out. A smile crept onto Terrh’s lips as he watched them take her away, followed by the security officer from the previous day. After a quick check that wasn’t carrying any weapons, he allowed him too to pass on and out of the room. Satisfied that the Federation personnel were out of the area, Terrh turned and walked back into the room. He was just in time to see a green and white shimmer of light where the Praetor had once been. “Any other survivors of this mess?” he asked the officers and aides that had been brought in to search the room. “Only the servants,” replied one person, off to the side somewhere. “Shall I inform the Proconsul about Praetors condition?” Terrh bit on his lip. With Praetor out of commission for the time being, the ruling hand would fall temporarily to the Proconsul and his Vice. “No, they are otherwise occupied,” he replied, wondering if his other plans had come to fruition. “I’ll handle things from here.” With that he turned and moved toward the exits. “Have the forensic analysts in here at once. I want to know precisely what happened.” As he stormed into the corridor and headed toward his office, he couldn’t hide the smile on his face. Things were going more to plan that he could ever have imagined. He stretched, showing off his body, and her lips compressed into a straight thin line. This one sure wasn't wasting any time showing off. He bent leaning back into the runabout to show off his legs, among other things. She resisted the urge to smack him on his behind since that was not ladylike behavior that she would want herself, but her eyes glinted while she watched. He stood up and holding a bag he left and walked out of the Main Hangar into the corridor. She had to take these reports to the Captain for review and his signature. So she ended up following the show off out into the corridor. "Excuse me, Sir," she said. "I have little time for shaking my hair loose and strutting about." She was close enough to note his height, strong looking arms and his rank and dared not look him in the face. Shaking herself mentally, she moved to turn and head for the turbolift. "You know a good place to get a bite to eat?" asked the striking Ensign. His question halted her. Her perfectly coifed dark hair gleamed in its French roll at the back of her head as she turned back again reluctantly. "Most of us crew like to get together now and then to eat at the Blue Lagoon. Its restful and pretty there, without a lot of the usual bar crowd. They have a waterfall with a small pool, more like a puddle, in their dining area. It's the only restaurant in the entire station that has that feature in their décor." She observed his clear sparkling green eyes, his full lower lip, and the way his hair curled near his collar and part of her mind broke out party streamers with balloons. The other part of her mind got out a baseball bat and waved it around, threatening to smack the balloons. Intellectually she agreed with the baseball bat and sternly told the party to cut it out right now. "Well," she snapped. "Anything else? I have a lot of work to do." Eoin was a bit taken aback by the yeoman's response."I'm sorry if I offended you, ensign. I was just trying to be helpful. You know a good place to get a bite to eat?" "Most of us crew like to get together now and then to eat at the Blue Lagoon. Its restful and pretty there, without a lot of the usual bar crowd. They have a waterfall with a small pool, more like a puddle, in their dining area. It's the only restaurant in the entire station that has that feature in their decor. Well, anything else? I have a lot of work to do." "No, that' it. Thanks," he said, as he started back down the hall. ~Note to self,~ he thought, ~stay far out of her way if you want to leave the station alive.~ He decided it'd be best if he didn't follow her into the turbolift. So, he started down the hall in the other direction, hoping there was another turbolift along there somewhere. (posted by Spencer) ===================================================================== (Starbase Geneva - Corridor outside Main Hangar - Ensign John Tuttle - 1212) Tuttle had been working on the hanger deck since he arrived on Geneva, 6 months ago. He had gotten pretty good at identifying who and what was coming into the Starbase. It really didn't take much to recognize the ensign that just graduated from the academy. He was the one with wide eyes and an innocent look like a child in a confectionary. He had been ordered to look for one Ensign MacLiam, and this red haired fellow was a prime candidate for that person. Of course the awkwardness that he approached and spoke with Calley McDevish was another big clue. He couldn't hide the smile that grew on his face as "McDevish the Devil" shot down yet another advance on her, even if it were an innocent one. When the turbolift closed on him, he had a look that seemed a cross between relief and disappointment, and, of course, lost. Tuttle stepped forward and put a gentle hand on the ensign's shoulder, "Ensign Eoin MacLiam?" (reply MacLiam) "I'm John Tuttle," the ensign went on. "I was sent her to let you know that the Hades is still on a mission and is not scheduled to return until after their mission is complete. I have taken the liberty of securing you some temporary quarters on deck 8." (reply MacLiam) "I also have this for you," Tuttle added, handing him a PADD. "It has a full deck layout of the station." (reply MacLiam) "If you like I can show you where your quarters are? And after that, Lt. Commander Herkimer 78 has requested that you meet him at 1600 hours in his office." (posted by Al Muir) ===================================================================== (Starbase Geneva - Corridor outside Main Hangar - ACEO Ensign Eoin Mac Liam - 1213) Eoin was still looking in vain for a turbolift, when he heard someone call his name, or rather an attempt to pronounce it. At the same time, he felt someone's hand on his shoulder. "Ensign Eoin Mac Liam?" Eoin turned around. "God be with you. My name's pronounced like 'Owen' for future reference, but what can I do for you? "I'm John Tuttle, I was sent here to let you know that the Hades is still on a mission and is not scheduled to return until after their mission is complete. I have taken the liberty of securing you some temporary quarters on deck 8." "Well thank you very much, ensign," Eoin said, making sure to note his rank pips. "I also have this for you," Tuttle added, handing him a PADD. "It has a full deck layout of the station." "Thank you. It'll definitely come in handy." "If you like I can show you where your quarters are? And after that, Lt. Commander Herkimer 78 has requested that you meet him at 1600 hours in his office." "Yes, that'd be great. Then I really need to get something to eat. Something other than Starfleet rations. Care to join me?" (posted by Spencer) ===================================================================== (Starbase Geneva – Promenade, The Blue Lagoon – Yeoman Calley McDevish - 1430) The lunch crowd was pretty much gone and it was almost deserted in the normally busy restaurant. At a table by herself, Calley sipped her iced tea with lemon and found her thoughts returning to the newcomer to the station, Ensign Mac Liam. When she had a free moment, she had found herself querying the computer about him and had discovered he was of Irish decent and had graduated from Dublin University. He had a large family, most of them with professions in the arts and music. She couldn't get him out of her mind and part of her railed at herself for being so oddly obsessive. It was very unlike her to want to think about a man after Joseph. ~I have certainly learned my lesson. Joseph was a good teacher.~ Lt. Joseph Mueller had been assigned to Geneva Station as a science officer about a year ago. He had been so charming, and Calley had fallen hard for him, only to find that he had been interested in using her for nothing more than a short term fling when she had been playing for keeps. Mueller had been another handsome man, arrogant in his good looks and preoccupied with what he wanted out of life. He had used her as an information source to help feed Doenitz side of the war ship and troop movements. Luckily they had caught Joseph before he could leak out much information. Calley would have been lying to herself if she hadn't admitted she got some sense of satisfaction seeing the slimey dog in the brig. But it hadn't made his callous betrayal hurt her any less. Calley had sworn off men and buried herself in work as a way to move on with her life. But seeing Ensign Mac Liam had woken up old buried feelings, like scraping a serrated knife over old half healed tender wounds. Those had been unpleasant times. ~They are over now,~ she reminded herself forcefully. ~I want to….I need to move on.~ But it was so hard. She didn't have any family left; her father had perished during the Federation Civil War, caught between both sides during one of the battles for Earth. Her sister, stationed as a scientist on Andoria, had disappeared; she'd heard she been taken in one of the camps there, but no one had ever seen her again. Calley's heart twisted painfully in her chest; she wanted to move on but it still hurt so much. Tears blurred her eyes and she rapidly blinked them away. All she had left was the Service and a few friends she had made here. But she still felt terribly alone and unhappy. She had lost too much and Joseph's betrayal had made all those other family losses worse. The Counselor had assured her it would get better over time. Calley hoped that was true. She doggedly continued with her life. Now this Ensign was here and he was too handsome for his own good or hers. She wanted nothing more than to barricade herself in her quarters; but that would be terribly foolish. She was no coward. Why should she let him chase her off? He was probably only going to be there temporarily anyway. She knew he was not assigned to the station or as a yeoman she would have heard about it. She kept finding herself fantasizing about moving slowly on the small dance floor with him, their bodies in perfect rhythm with the music, with her dressed in a filmy full skirted ball gown sprinkled with sequence and a low cut bodice and him in a tuxedo with tails. He would have his arm around her waist and she would run her fingers through his red curls. Calley's eyes grew dreamy as she stared over the rim of her iced tea and looked at the waterfall. (Posted by Sheila) ===================================================================== (Starbase Geneva - Promenade, The Blue Lagoon - ACEO Ensign Eoin Mac Liam - 1433) Rather than going right to the Promenade after dropping his things off in his quarters, Eoin actually decided to take a short nap. Well, that "short" nap turned out to be nearly 2 hours long. After quickly straightening out his hair and his uniform, he headed down to the Promenade. Upon getting there, he asked a Vulcan in a science uniform where the Blue Lagoon was. "Just down the corridor a ways. It's on the left. You can't miss it." "Thanks." ~He seemed rather friendly for a Vulcan.~ Eoin shrugged it off and continued down the corridor. He found the Blue Lagoon, and saw that it was slightly empty at the moment. But one person was there that he recognized. That satanic yeoman he saw down in the hangar. He took a seat at the bar, far away from her, and ordered some tea to start off with. He looked up as the young Ensign entered the BLue Lagonn. "What can I get you Ensign?" he asked in a bored tone of voice (reply: Ensign Eoin Mac Liam) Braack said to the young hew*mon " sit where you like". 'Speak of the devil and in he walks' as her father used to say. Just listening to Ensign Mac Liam's rich baritone voice made Calley shiver and her skin had goose bumps all over. Why did Braack have to let this Romeo in here? Calley sighed and put her face in her hands. What the heck was wrong with her? Couldn't she just ignore this man and stay away from him? But there was that bizarre indefinable longing within her that didn't want him to stay away. Someday she was going to have to get over Joseph and his coldhearted treatment of her. It was in the past and she couldn't change it anyway. She was going to have to stop allowing Joseph to still control her heart. He was gone and she had to live life again. Calley wasn't one to hide the truth from herself, at least not for very long. She had to admit to herself she hadn't been very nice to Eoin Mac Liam. Her defensiveness was probably a knee jerk reaction and she knew she owed him an apology. Maybe she could just apologize and then quickly leave. Calley downed the rest of her iced tea with a few big gulps and found herself wishing it had a shot of whiskey in it. She could use a little liquid courage right now. ~Oh well, I might as well get it over with.~ Before she could chicken out and change her mind, she stood up and leaving her table, she walked over to the Engineer that was sitting at the bar. Making her features as stoic as possible she firmly squashed down the excitement she felt at being near the man again and straightened her quaking knees. ~Don't make a fool of yourself Calley,~ she admonished. ~Be brief and polite.~ She motioned to Braack to move away, giving him a stern look that could probably have cut like a dagger, and then pulled on her stoic mask again. "Might I have a word with you Ensign Mac Liam?" she asked as politely as possible. His ebony eyes gleamed with mischief. The Ferengi was never shy about voicing his ideas. "Nice looking gal over there eh Ensign?" Braack said with a toothy grin pointing at the yeoman. (reply: Ensign Mac Liam) Bracck laughed heartily at the man's discomfort. The yeoman walked toward the ensign. She waived the Ferengi away. Braack scurried off thinking ~ Hew*mon women!~. Bracck stood over by the bar and watched the human's interact. (posted by Spencer) ===================================================================== (Starbase Geneva - Promenade, The Blue Lagoon – Yeoman Calley McDevish - 1440) "Might I have a word with you Ensign Mac Liam?" The lanky Engineer turned in her direction. The dim light from around the posh bar glinted off his red hair. "Eoin, if you please. I'm off duty. What can I do for you?" he asked. His green eyes looked as if they could stare right through her, seeing into her soul. Calley laced her fingers together and looked studiously at his throat. She gulped nervously and plunged ahead. "I realize that I owe you an apology, Ensign Mac Liam. I was rude to you for no good reason and you hadn't even done anything but arrive here," she said. "I hope you accept my apology, Sir." (Reply Eoin Mac Liam, Any) Calley nodded, and to her horror her throat seemed to close up and her eyes filled with tears. ~Oh no! Not now!~ Not trusting herself to speak coherently, she turned away, embarrassed, and put her hand over her face in an effort to gain control over herself. She felt mortified and humiliated at her own weakness. She struggled to draw a breath without sobbing, her face getting hot. (Reply Eoin Mac Liam, Any) Shoving the feelings down in an effort to recover her mental equilibrium, Calley finally was able to speak. "I'll see you around, ok?" She gave him a watery smile and then made for the entrance to the restaurant, walking as quickly on rubbery legs as she could without falling down. Once out on the main promenade, she sidestepped those in her way and headed for her quarters at a trot. I suppose I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time. That does happen now and again, after all. And please, call me Eoin. I'm off duty, and I think we're all friends here." The yeoman nodded. She seemed flustered. "Are you alright, yeoman?" "I'll see you around, ok?" And with that, she left. Eoin turned back to the bar. "Strange woman," he said to Braak. (Posted by Spencer) ===================================================================== (Starbase Geneva - Promenade, The Blue Lagoon - Bartender Braack - 1442.5) As the ensign commented on the yeoman being a bit strange, the Ferengi smiled and added " Females of all species seem strange to the male mind". (reply: Ensign ) Braak chuckled and thought about his cousin Pez. Pez had decided he wanted a hew*mon wife and very un-Ferengi in his attitude his wife. ~He lets her wear clothes at home! ~ mused Braak shaking his head. He scuttled around the bar - taking stock of the drinks and making sure no one had 'borrowed' from the latinum in the register. His thoughts drifted back to Cousin Pez - anther odd quirk (at least by Ferengi standards) was his affection for his mate's hew*mon child. Braack had met Tom Jackson once or twice. ~A typical starfleeter~ Braack thought. The rumor mill had it that the HADES was coming back for some R&R - maybe he'd see Jackson and pass him messages Pez had sent to him (Braack agreed to do this for 3 strips of latinum). Braack stopped and leaned back against the bar - wishing he were elsewhere.
